Did Hall of Fame Speech Save Michael Irvins Broadcasting Career?
The induction speech given by Michael Irvin at the Pro Football Hall of Fame has been so well received by so many observers that there’s now talk that it may have revived Irvin’s broadcasting career. Irvin was fired by ESPN after the 2006 NFL season, and he hasn’t landed any high-profile gigs to replace the job he lost. Irvin had a propensity for shouting on the air, he rarely offered insightful analysis of the game on the field, and he was roundly criticized for comments about Tony Romo’s ancestry. All that added up to the end of his career as a sportscaster. But Irvin was so smooth, articulate and humble at the Hall of Fame Saturday night that anyone watching must have thought he deserves another chance in the broadcasting industry. And he may get just that. Pro Football Talk reported that Irvin was in talks to get a radio show with Content Factory, the same company that has a new syndication deal in place with Dan Patrick. Larry Brown Sports has noted that Irvin would need a co-host
