God had nothing to do with it. Human greed and stupidity cause economic disasters. Or do you think that little green men from Mars were the cause? I think that the people who grew-up in the Great Depression knew what it meant to REALLY have to earn something. They knew how it felt to REALLY want to work, but not be able to find a job. They knew what it was like to struggle and save. Making dresses out of potato sacks and trying to make everything they had last. Most Americans wouldn’t eat soup every night with more broth than meat or vegetables – maybe even without any meat! Be thankful for enough flour to make a loaf of bread. Use an old bed-sheet to make a doll or a slip to go under your skirt. Do you know what a stick horse is? My children still play with stick horses and skipping ropes, marbles and chalk, jacks and toy soldiers.
