Did God allow the ancient Israelites to use religious images as aids to devotion?
Exodus 20:4,5 states “You must not make a carved image for yourself or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters of earth.You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am exacting exclusive devotion!” Also Psalms 115:4-8 says, “Their idols are silver and gold, the work of the hands of earthling man. A mouth they have but cannot speak. Eyes they have but cannot see. Ears they have but cannot hear. A nose they have but cannot smell. Hands are theirs but they cannot feel. Feet are theirs but they cannot walk. They utter no sound with their throats. Those making them will become just like them, all those who are trusting in them” So…they definitely were not to have any idols. And idols do nothing for us anyway as Psalm 115 shows. Now in the Christian Greek Scriptures it says at 1Tim 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man Christ Jesus.” So…the only
