Well it’s not that simple as Germany started the war. The war broke out because of a chain of events due to the tensions between the then European superpowers. I’ll make it as simple as I can for you. So here it goes: Austria-Hungary<->Russia: The Russians supported the Serbs claim for independence from the Austria empire. This was due to their common religion (Christian Orthodox) and personal interest from the situation. This was also the what got the excuse running that made the war official, i.e. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austrian empire was assassinated in Sarajevo by Serb-Bosnian nationalists, then Austria gave an ultimatum to Serbia which they didn’t accept, Austria declared war on Serbia and Russia stood up to defend their Serbian friends. Nevertheless the fact that these two great empires were next to each there made the tensions even greater. Germany<->France: The Prussians(which basically was one of the multiple independent German states) managed to get away from the Fr
