DID FAMILY MATTERS PAVE A WAY FOR THE COSBY SHOW?
You’re a bit off…The Cosby Show had been on network TV five years (and had its earlier episodes hit syndication) when Family Matters premiered in 1989 (you do the math). The Cosby Show finished in 1992 after eight seasons while the Winslow clan had seven seasons (six as part of the old TGIF line-up on ABC, the final season ran on CBS). Family Matters (like the rest of the Miller-Boyett/Jeff Franklin productions) were routinely heavy-handed with the life lesson based stories while The Cosby Show approached such topics with a bit more understatement.
