Alexander: Yes, Two Thumbs Up. And the following week they totally surprised me by making it the Pick of the Week. That was like a double-whammy which I didn’t expect at all. I kept thinking, “What if he comes down on it? I’ll have to dislike him.” No. (Laughs) His review in the Sun-Times was really, really good as well. IGNFF: What do you say when someone says, “How does a woman direct a movie like this?” Alexander: Well, you know, it’s quite a surprise and shock to people. But, you know, I grew up in this world so therefore it was a personal story. I wrote it as well. I co-wrote it with a couple of guys so it wasn’t like a gig that I took or some gimmick where a producer can say, “Oh, we’re going to get a woman to direct this film.” It’s my story.
