Did Dodi Choose Engagement Ring?
CCTV footage has been released of Dodi Fayed picking out what his family says may have been an engagement ring to give to Princess Diana. The pictures show Mr Fayed visiting the Repossi jewellers in Paris just hours before the crash which killed the couple and their driver. The ring was from a range called “Dis-moi oui” – meaning “Tell me yes”. The CCTV footage was shown for the first time at the inquest into the deaths of the pair. Mr Fayed, surrounded by staff, is seen being shown several items of jewellery. He is taken to a cabinet by Alberto Repossi before a selection of pieces are laid out on tables for him to inspect. Mr Fayed ended up leaving with just a brochure and then returned to the Ritz Hotel. He and Diana then spent several hours at the hotel on the afternoon and evening of August 30, 1997 before the fatal journey. Shortly after Mr Fayed left the jewellers, Claude Roulet, the assistant to the Ritz’s president, returned to the shop and picked up a bag containing two rings.
