Did Disney movies start going downhill after the death of Sir Waltz Disney?
I’ll admit they did go into a slump for several years after he died. It seemed like the company leadership, lacking any vision or direction, was content to sit on their laurels and play it safe. Occasionally, they’d release something new but it would always bomb compared to a re-release of something classic Disney. It wasn’t until The Little Mermaid, that they proved that they could still summon the old magic. Then they were on a winning streak (theatrically) up until Atlantis (I’ve not yet seen Princess and the Frog, but from the clips I have seen, it looks like a winner). The thing is, today it is run by financial whizzes (people who would have been called “Roy men” back in the 50’s). It may still have “Walt men” on the payroll, but they aren’t calling the shots. I don’t have cable TV, so I really don’t know what is shown on the Disney Channel. From the complaints I’ve read online, it’s a mix of classic stuff with new stuff that is so shallow that even its target audience won’t watch
