Did Dave and Maddie really talk to the audience?
Yes they do. One aspect of Moonlighting that makes it unique is the references to the audience. Maddie and Dave often turn to the audience for support in midst of an argument (David: “I’m at a loss, I don’t know what a flying fig is”. Maddie: “That’s okay..they do”. David then winks at the camera.), or comments on the obvious (David: “You knew I wouldn’t let her go by herself”.) Some shows open with Dave and Maddie in character, addressing the audience, and discussing fan mail, ratings, and the theme song.
