Did Dallas County voters forgive, forget or just overlook incumbents’ scandals?

0

Dallas County voters seemed to be a forgiving group when it came to re-electing incumbents embroiled in controversies of their own making. A wide range of ethical missteps — including awarding scholarships to family members, driving a Mercedes provided by a state contractor and double-billing expenses to the state and a campaign account — were apparently forgiven and forgotten, as U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, State Rep. Linda Harper-Brown and State Rep. Joe Driver won with comfortable margins. – Johnson (who handed out the scholarships to her grandkids) won a whopping 76 percent of the vote. – Harper-Brown (who drove the questionable car) won 52 percent of the vote. – Driver (who double-billed) amassed 57 percent of the vote.
