Did customer demand drive IBM to expand EMMS beyond digital audio with version 2?
MacIntyre: The area that I’m responsible for is the area of enterprise content management. That means working with customers who have a lot of unstructured information. We view structured information as letters and numbers, and unstructured information as everything else, the audio, the video, and the documents. We have roughly 10,000 customers today using our enterprise content manager repository. As we’ve been listening to those customers, they’ve been saying, “I want to be able to start distributing this information much farther beyond my enterprise. What are my options? I understand you do it for music, but I’m interested in that for all my information.” That brought us into really how we defined version 2, working with so many of our enterprise content customers.
