No. The most significant thing that Constantine did was make Christianity a state religion. This had *extensive* consequences (both good and bad). 1) For example, *as* a state religion, Constantine employed it – yes, he used religion – as an indicator and creator of conformity (*any* conformity – he did not dictate the nature of that conformity). He demanded that all schisms be resolved, and he violently suppressed those Christian sects that refused to comply with the mainstream doctrine and hierarchy. This was not done **to** Christian doctrine. Constantine permitted the Christians to form their own doctrine. However, for the sake of unity of the empire he insisted on the unity of members of the state religions. In other words, Christians established in council the doctrines they chose to believe.
