Did coke always use corn syrup as its main sweetner, if not, what did they use?”

Remember New Coke? Some see it as the greatest business blunder of the twentieth century. I on the other hand see it as a marketing masterpiece. New Coke replaced classic Coke sweetened by sugar and everybody hated it. After a while Coke put Classic Coke back on the market but there was a subtle change. Classic Coke was now sweetened by much cheaper corn syrup and people were so glad to have something that tasted almost like the old Coke back that they didn’t even notice the change. Brilliant I say, Brilliant. Sneaky too! You can still get the original sugar sweetened Coke in Mexico so actually it ought to be people from the US slipping across the border into Mexico instead of the other way around.
