Source: Richmond Times-Dispatch The U.S. Health and Human Services is investigating whether Commonwealth Catholic Charities of Richmond’s staff violated state law by signing a consent form for a teenager in foster care to have an abortion. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Catholic Charities fired four staff members in connection with the incident. A letter signed by Catholic Diocese of Richmond Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo and two other bishops has been sent to fellow Catholic bishops in the United States outlining what happened and the response by the agency and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The 16-year-old girl who had the abortion in January is from Guatemala and is in a foster home in the Richmond area. “It’s a tragic situation, and we’re all concerned,” Linda Rigsby, vice chairwoman of the Commonwealth Catholic Charities Board of Directors, said last night.
