Klein believes the Camelot princess used her influence to try to derail the book (published this month by St. Martin’s Press). In 2000, Hyperion, Disney’s publishing arm, made a deal (said to be worth $500,000) for Klein to write his book about the Kennedys’ tragedies. Last year, the publisher told Klein it was dropping the project. Klein admits that he was a month late in handing it in, but notes that “a month is nothing in book publishing.” He suspects Hyperion actually jettisoned the book for fear of losing another one of its authors: Caroline. Searching for a new home for “Curse,” Klein’s agent, Dan Strone, ran into resistance at Warner Books – where, some believe, editors were fearful of offending their author Maria Shriver, Caroli
