Did black people like Vanilla Ice when he first started?
Well kinda…The problem most people had with him, was that it was very clear that he was jumping on the bandwagon and trying a little too hard to prove his “blackness.” He embellished every part of what he felt was a black image, from the hi-top fade (a popular hair style for black men at the time) to the dance moves. He had a pretty good fanbase though amongst teenage girls. But then his head started getting bigger, and he begun to run his mouth in interviews and at one time was quoted as saying “I’m from the streets.” Then someone did some research and found out he was actually from a really nice Suburb. It was on the news and in the tabloids. From there, he lost a lot of credibility. So, then people started laughing at him, saying he wasn’t “keeping it real”, imitating his dance moves etc..
