Did Bjorn Borg retire because his Wimbledon streak ended?
Well the major factor behind his retirement was the fact that he was not given a dirct entry to play the French open 1982. Overall Borg’s retirement at the age of 26 was a result 4 major factors as below. 1- A Series of high profile defeats: Tennis is a game of Confidence, some heart breaking defeats in 1981 hurt Borg’s confidence, this includes not just Wimbledon but also the US open, Monte Carlo, Brussels, Milan and finally Tokyo. If he had won the US open, he could have gained some lost ground, but disheartened by defeats he took a 5 month long break after Tokyo open. I have read that Borg once made a statement that after all this he wasnt enjoying his tennis the way he used to.
