DId Ben Johnson or Christopher Marlow, ever write anything funny about Inigo Jones?
I don’t think that the relationship between Ben Johnson and Inigo Jones was such as to provoke humour. Johnson and Jones had a famous argument over who should get “top billing” at a production of one of Johnson’s plays – author (Johnson) or designer (Jones). Johnson wrote several derogatory letters enclosing poems to his friends in which he lampooned Jones. The relationship could be considered acrimonious rather than humorous. Just what part Christopher Marlowe played in all this is not clear. perhaps he was one of the recipients of the unflattering letters?
