Did anyone watch “Bulgarias Abandoned Children” on BBC4?
I have watched the documentary and felt the same as you. The problem is if you send money you don’t know where the money will go, if you go and buy food you don’t know if it will be cooked for the children or not. It is a remote village with no controlling commisioners visiting the place…or if they were visiting may be they were bilndfolded.I was gutted… There are a lot of beautiful homes in Bulgaria but this one spoils all the good impression and hard work which other people are putting into helping those children.
Bulgarias Abandoned Children BBC4 Thursday 13th September I also was deeply saddened and horrified by this documentary showing the stark reality of the institutional conditions in which these children were suppodedly cared for . There was a clear abuse of power irresposibility and general apathy to the plight of these children both from the carers and the director. The politicians and local Mayor should face charges of abuse and neglect . These children need our help as it is clear their own country has abandoned them to rot . I watched with sadness and deep concern as Di Di clung to hope that her mother would come to take her but the reality is that she would be left to die a horrible degenerating mental and physical shutdown just like the ohthers There was clear abuse from the carers both physically and mentally , The children terrified. We cannot allow this to happen one more minute. I called the Bulgarian embassy in London and emailed him my views and outrage that as a member of an
Yes I watched the appauling treatment of already critically dissadvantaged children and what haunted me was the fact that after the researchers left god only knows what treatment these children were subjected to. While you and I are writing they are still subject to the complete and total disinterest of their so called carers. I tried to contact the Bulgarian Embassy in London but one line was unanswered and the other constantly engaged. I have however contacted and spoken to the Hon Consul for the Republic of Bulgaria in Dundee where I live. He is sending for a copy of the film and has promised to get back to me and he fully intends to locate the government official/s who should oversee and monitor the care of these children. I am sure you noticed as i did that the simple physical contact made by the researcher to the little boy rocking violently was sufficent to calm him as he then lay still in her arms. Money sent will surely be misplaced when you consider the director, in the full
For anyone who is interested a fund is being set up to directly help rescue these children from that terrible place. The intention is to place them in private foster care with trained staff including a nutritionalist, physio etc. They are not beyond hope no matter how extreme their disability or state of health is.
Hi, I also saw the documentary last night, and it emphasises what I alredy know about the situation in Bulgaria – it’s horrific to see the lives those poor children lead. The company I work for works closely with Bulgarian Partner’s Trust – a UK registered charity that proves there are people over in Bulgaria that truly care about the kids there, and that not everyone is like the uncaring, neglectful employees of the orpahanages.
