Did anyone watch “Bulgarias Abandoned Children” on BBC4?
I did watch some of this, however I had to turn it off in the end as I just couldn’t watch any more. It was just heartbreaking, they were treated like caged animals. There must be abuse physical/sexual going on, there were mostly women working in the orphanage, yet it was left up to 2 men to take naked adolescent girls to be showered, which I thought was very, very odd. And those poor little ones left to rot all day and night in those cots, no stimulation, god it is just horrible. I agree that any money sent would probably end up in the pockets of the carers, not on food/clothing etc.
Words cannot describe how i feel after watching this programme i cannot stop thinking about these children that they are suffering the most unimaginable life . I want to know what has happened to them now and is there anyway to bring some comfort into there lives, i certainly wouldn’t be sending the director of the orphanage money she would spend it on a computer.Thank god for the national health service we have in this country of which many people complain about . I am really pleased that so many people have made a comment about this maybe a letter to the Bulgarian government might help i find it hard to be live that most people of Bulgaria would not know of this place, but then again there is alot of poverty.
Check this website: http://www.bulgarianchild.org/2003-06/mogilino.htm Could it be the same place, the same orphanage??? Note that this information is 4 years old. What did happen there? Did you notice any playgrounds on that document last night? No, well check the pictures on that webpage… It looks like the last 4 years were wasted and now the situation of those children is even worse. Something somehow needs to be done! Any ideas? First of all, I think BBC should show that document once again, but this time on BBC1 or BBC2 in the ‘prime’ time. That should spread the information and make a bigger impact as a result. Second of all, a pressure of some kind needs to be exercise on the government to force them to undertake some actions on the international level. Bulgaria receives lots of funds from EU and I believe EU commission can put some restrictions on those funds, if they are not utilised in a specific way. That means EU should be able to force Bulgarian’s government to resolve t
I found this program extremely disturbing. To think that this country has been allowed to join the EU whilst allowing such cruelty on its soil is even more disturbing. The response from the Bulgarian Embassy is an aboslute revolt. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall. No one seems to see anything wrong with what is happening. They said that not one of these institutes have ever failed the heath assessment – that just proves their standards. It was hard to watch. What about when they fed the kids? These poor kids didn’t even have time to chew up their food, it was like the workers there had a kind of target…so many spoonful per milliseconds. Absolutely unaccepteble. The European Union should levy some kind of sanction on Bulgaria, that’s for sure. When are people going to understand that our children are our future. Towards the end of the program they showed the adult institute – the next stage for these kids when they grow up (if they do grow up and not end up dead in the
