Did anyone on here ever get the cane at school – if so, what for?
I never got the cane, BUT I DID get “THE Board of Education” (the paddle). AND I can admit I deserved it. Starting with the first day of first grade, my parents took me to public school for the first time. My father told the teacher, “Mrs. M., this is our son, Ron. We want you to know, if he EVER steps out of line or gives you any trouble, don’t be afraid to discipline him in any way you see fit. Don’t be bashful.” Until I reached the 9th grade, each and every year on the first day of school, the same routine happened: One or both my parents would go to school with me and give each and every teacher the same little speech. When I was in 7th grade, my parents told my homeroom teacher & the principal! It was a beautiful spring day in the 8th grade. We (myself and 7 of my friends) were hanging around the school buses – EXACTLY where we were told AT LEAST two other times NOT to be.
