Did anyone know about the battle of the Aleutian Islands?

The attacks on the islands of Attu and Kiska were intended as diversions by the Japanese. There never was any real danger to the US since the islands were so isolated. At first the US was going to just leave the Japanese there until the war was over, but decided that the public perception of that would not be good. So they ended up reclaiming the islands sooner than planned. But most of the time documentaries or books about the Pacific campaign will ignore the Aleutian Islands campaign because it was very minor fight within a much larger war.
