My son was born at 35 weeks and six days. He was a whopping 7lbs, but I had gestational diabetes which accounted for his size. I was scheduled for a routine ultrasound, but had him two hours later because they discovered that he was in distress. Surprisingly, he had no complications due to being early. He did have some labored breathing because he was born by c-section and he had blood sugar issues because of my GD, but he did not have to spend any time in the NICU. We were all able to go home together five days later. We had to be extra careful with his weight gain in the beginning and he had to be treated like a preemie. The doctors monitored his feedings. He was very sleepy and because he was so small (despite his weight) he had major latching issues, making breast feeding difficult. But now 15 weeks later he is 15lbs and a very healthy little munchkin. He has reached some milestones slower than others. For example, he started smiling late but started holding his head up early…so
