I can see where you may think that he was disrespectful by disappearing on his family without word, but I did find a certain inspiration in the character. I chose to focus on the simplicity by which he lived as an inspiration. In a time where consumerism is splashed all over, I found it refreshing to see a young person yearn for nothing but basic survival and the beauty of nature. I think that there was a certain level of spirituality engrained in his character, that made his minimalistic and nomadic life so captivating. It exuded a similarity to the religious journeys taken by past religious teachers, like in the book, Siddhartha. In those expeditions, the acknowledgement of selflessness and strive for knowledge can be highly inspirational.
