Yes. In particular, Charles Dickens praised his extravaganza “Fortunio and His Seven Gifted Servants” while adapting the play for his own herd of children to perform, and seemed to enjoy the translated fairy tales. W.M. Thackeray proclaimed the “Yellow Dwarf” “an idyl” with uncharacteristic emotion. Beyond this, many periodical critics expressed admiration for Planche’s work and his writing was generally popular.
