Did Anorexia Once have Survival Value? Friday May 5, 2006A recent theory suggests that Anorexia nervosa may have once helped people survive times of starvation. This theory suggests that an instinct that told members of migrating populations to move to a new home when their food supply ran low may have given people with anorexia an edge in surviving.
