Did an armed IRS agent “ambush” Bishop Anthony Jinwright?
After a mid-morning break, federal prosecutors continued questioning the IRS agent about the Jinwrights’ financial documents. The agent testified that Bishop Anthony Jinwright (photo insert) filed additional applications for car leases and loans on which he claimed more income than the couple had reported on their tax returns. The gap at one point grew to about $700,000, the agent said. Prosecutors also asked the agent about the handling of his firearm. In opening arguments Wednesday, one of Anthony Jinwright’s lawyers said armed IRS agents had “ambushed” his client while Jinwright was working with a grieving family at his funeral home. “I do not routinely display my weapon,” the agent said. “I keep it concealed at all times.” After lunch, the agent will face cross-examination from lawyers representing both Jinwrights, who were charged separately.
