Did Adam and Eve the first man created by God?
J C is correct. Look at verse 2:4, which tells us that what follows is a description of creation (chapter 1 is simply a chronological ordering of creation). In other words, 1:1 to 2:3 is sort of a timeline of creation. The remainder of chapter 2 provides a more detailed account of what happened during the creation described in chapter 1. Unlike chapter 1, chapter 2 is not a chronological account: it is, instead, a topical account (addresses events relative to each topic without regard for the place in time of those events) So, for example, chapter 2 teaches us that God created all the animals and brought them before Adam to name; however, it doesn’t say that God created the animals *and then* brought them before Adam to name *right away*. Chapter 1 shows us that God created the animals – but that he did so *before* he created Adam. After bringing those animals to Adam, God created Eve.
