Could WSF encourage the public perception of increased identification of SPED students in the schools to gain more funds?
Policies and procedures to identify students eligible for special education will not change under WSF. Under WSF the allocation procedure that includes “weights” for student characteristics is very transparent as is the targeting of those funds to specified activities designed to increase specific student achievement. The Committee on Weights is tasked with providing appropriate “weights” to ensure there is no incentive to “over identify” students for special education.
