Could they lose seniority because they were cross-trained and didnt fly for periods of time?
A. No. Section 19, Seniority applies again to this question. Flight Attendants ceased cross-utilization in 1992. Flight Attendants voted for AFA representation in 1994. In late 1994 and early 1995, AFA and AWA agreed to “freeze” the AWA Flight Attendant system seniority list as of September 15, 1994, thereby locking in everyones seniority at that time, regardless of time spent working as a Flight Attendant during the cross-utilization years. In May, 1999 we ratified our first contract and that contract contains a seniority list in the back of the contract that AWA and AFA accepts. That list, and language in Section 19, Seniority, protects your seniority. Further, Section 19, Seniority, B. provides that the company post the Seniority List twice each year for 30-days. During that 30-day period, flight attendants had the ability to protest “any alleged omission or inaccurate placement affecting her/his seniority.” A Flight Attendant may only protest her/his placement on the Seniority List
