Could the United States ever collapse because of too little economic regulation?
Deficit spending is what the federal government does, and it is the government that regulates, so you are not being coherent in talking about that as an example of lack of regulation. It’s not too difficult to imagine circumstances that came to a head last October, if they were more exaggerated, causing an economic collapse. We were not far from that. But again, that’s not a case of too little regulation, in my opinion. The government was very much to blame for much of what happened — more a case of government intereference distorting markets, along with incompetent regulation, rather than “too little” regulation. There could be an economic collapse, but it’s hard to imagine any circumstances that would cause a total collapse of the nation as with the USSR, which suddenly ceased to exist altogether as a nation. Americans WANT to be Americans … nobody believed in the old USSR, it was all a big lie. At an extreme, Texas might break off if the rest of the country was dragging it down.
