Could the oil industry have inadvertently saved whales from extinction?
It may unintentionally have caused a tenuous positive fluctuation in the population of the whales. Ideally it could make sense that when people move from reliance on living life forms to the remains of dead plants and animals, such as those found in carbon fuels, that the resources are more abundant for a while. Similarly, hydropower and nuclear power may turn out to be more abundant forms of energy if used right. It is hard to say. Hindsight often turns out to be a better judge of some matters. I do not think that any particular political system deserves the credit for any positive consequences that may have unfolded. Oil development also has been known to upset and damage ecosystems, just as do many other human activities. Ecosystems all are interconnected, and damage to one ultimately may inflcit damage or destruction to them all. Some whale populations already are in trouble from the noise that is part of offshore drilling. They have been displaced. Oil spills can have disastrous e
