Could Sprints Boost Mobile growth hopes hinder Virgin?
Just how much of a boost can Boost Mobile offer to Sprint? This is an issue that Sprint executives have been confronting ever since they bought Nextel Communications in 2005 and inherited the prepaid wireless business of Boost Mobile. At times they choked off growth at Boost on purpose. Sometimes the Nextel network couldn’t handle the extra traffic. Some questioned the value of Boost’s customers. Other times the growth strategy for the Sprint subsidiary wasn’t entirely clear. Now, though, Sprint is striving to shore up its eroding customer base where it can. Boost appears to have a green light. Grow, grow, grow. If it can. The newly installed leadership team at Boost is criss-crossing the country this week to tell Boost’s dealer force about the new strategy of the business. No longer is the nearly sole focus on urban youth. Budget-conscious consumers who still desire at least a whiff of hipness in the mobile phones they carry. “We are a brand consumers can wear proudly, but also get mo
