Could someone tell me why the soviet project of the ekranoplane failed?
Your English is better than many British people use on this site! I think the ekranoplane should have a future, as a safer version of an airliner, but many times faster than a ship – I believe it could be a massive contribution to reducing Carbon Dioxide output – surely it must be much more efficient than using an airliner, which burns a massive amount of fuel just to reach a high altitude, and stay aloft at high speed. I am aware that the ekranoplane tends to ‘cruise’ at about 4 metres ‘altitude’ – I expect this is unsafe over ice, where it would be impossible for the pilot to see a tall crest of ice and take evasive action in time – as for using it to cross the Atlantic, as well as the danger of collision with shipping, what happens if the sea swells in stormy weather, to 6, 8 or even ten metre waves? These would easily sink the craft.
