Some of the more important ones were: The German National People’s Party (DVNP) – a rightwing conservative party with monarchist leanings, gradually moved from a aristocratic base to a more populist nationalist one – they were moderate nationalists who attempted to reign in the Nazis on several occasions in an attempt to form a right wing coalition. Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDP) – a moderate left-wing party opposed to the hardline revolutionary attitude of communism and dedicated to further socialist principles, they played a central role in Weimar government and formed several coalitions with minor parties.
