Could someone give more information about confidentiality role of a classroom assistant?

I was a classroom assistant a few years ago and there was no confidentiality agreement, written or spoken. I don’t know if full time teachers have to sign anything like that or not. I just don’t feel the need to blab other people’s business and I don’t like gossiping so I didn’t do it. Honestly, we have that problem here not so much with assistants but with the actual teachers. The teachers I know are some of the biggest gossips I have ever met. I don’t know if that’s just a characteristic trait they coincidentally all share or if the new ones feel pressured to do it and eventually fall in line with the rest. My MIL was a teacher for 31 years and my goodness the stuff you could learn from her! She and her co-workers, knew everything about everyone and didn’t mind telling it to everyone else. You could find out who’s mama got arrested for drug use, who’s daddy was having an affair, which kid was on the most meds and why, etc…. I think that’s rude, confidentiality agreement or not.
