The number one reason is the leadership. During the reformation, Martin Luther was opposed to the human leadership of the Papacy because, at that time, it was corrupt. The Protestants also do not accept all of the Bible (they omit some of the Old Testament). Another key difference is that Protestants allow their preachers (that they call pastors or ministers, compared to the Catholic priest) to marry or be female. There is also some difference in the actual mechanics of the services and sacraments. It is very hard to pin down too many differences because all of the Protestant denominations are different from each other and the Catholic Church.

Catholics accept all the beliefs of the original Christian Church, since they are the original Christian Church. Protestants have rejected many of the beliefs and practices of original Christianity, replacing them with new traditions of men introduced by their many human founders. Of course just which beliefs have been rejected depends on which Protestant church you are talking about. They are all different, in some cases more different from one another than from Catholicism. And the fact that their beliefs conflict is a sure sign that many of their beliefs are false, since truth cannot conflict with truth. The Catholic Church relies on the promises of its founder, Jesus Christ, who told its early leaders, “the Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth”, and “whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven”, and “he who hears you hears me”. I think the main difference is how they view salvation and the source of the truth. Protestant believe people are saved by grace alone Catholics believe saved is by grace and good works Protestant solely rely on the bible Catholics rely on the bible and the tradition Bottom line, being Catholics is more difficult since you have to understand the duality principle.

Catholicism and trinitarian protestants share most beliefs like the articles of the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds Many Protestants are in greater difference doctrinally from other Protesatants than they are from the catholic teaching Protestants protested against the ecclesiology, sacramental system and authority of the catholic Church and many over salvation, grace and interpretatoion of the Bible and the role of Apostolic Tradition There are 30,000+ Protestant Churches but there is only one Catholic Church (the Papal Communion) Catholics believe that their Church was founded by Christ and Protestants usually do not believe that their denominations were founded by Christ (from the 16th century to new ones starting up today) Protestants subscribe to Solo Christo-by and to Christ alone; no asking the saints in heaven to pray with you to Christ Sola Fide_salvation by faith alone and not by faith-hope-love Sola Scriptura- doctrine by and througgh the Bible alone (even though they all seem to

I agree with one of the other posters. There are a lot of differences. One of the main ones is that Catholics go to a priest to have their sins forgiven and Protestants don’t. They ask Jesus to forgive them, which is what the bible says.
