If you want a very clearly defined example of controlled evolution, do some research on dog breeding. This sort of speciation is a form of controlled evolution. Different breeds of dogs are interbred to reinforce certain genetic traits and predispositions. If you’re going to read just one book on evolution, to get a feel for it, I’d suggest Jerry Coyne’s “Why Evolution Is True”, even over “The Greatest Show on Earth”, by Richard Dawkins; much easier to digest if you aren’t “up on” evolution, but it doesn’t dumb down the science either, far from it.
