could someone explain the parable of the prodigal son?
The parable of the prodigal son is a great teaching tool and often misunderstood. There are many lessons to learn from it, but I’ll just see if I can address your concerns directly. Our Heavenly Father loves each of us, his children, and will do whatever he can to help us grow and develop. Contrary to popular belief, life isn’t about just making it to heaven or hell — it’s to mature through a variety of experiences that will hopefully make us wise enough to choose to obey the principles of happiness. The prodigal son (each of us) had rejected his father’s (God’s) way, but eventually, by his experiences, realized he was mistaken. His coming back is great cause for celebration. The good son (each of us) became jealous of his brother. It’s common for people out of pride to be jealous of others’ success. Another example is when a young child becomes jealous of his parents love to a sibling even though love is such that the more you give, the more you have.
