Could my medication for the asthma (beclomethasone) now be aggravating the runny nose?
Answer Hi Alison It’s possible that the asthma and runny nose are part and parcel of the same problem. Often (but not always) people with asthma will have symptoms of rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane in the nose). Remember, the nose and the rest of the respiratory tract are all part of the same system so it’s conceivable that inflammation in one part of it may also be present in another part of it. I doubt that your asthma medication is aggravating it because a) it doesn’t tend to do this and b) you say you’ve had the runny nose for 18 months so you had it before you started you inhaler therapy. It’s possible that your rhinitis (or more accurately termed “rhinorroea” which is the word used to describe the persistent watery discharge) is allergic and not related to your asthma. Not all allergic rhinitis is seasonal and some people can have the symptoms all year round (perennial rhinitis) if they remain in contact with the allergen responsible (could this be the case for you
