Could it really be degenerative myelopathy?

Hi, my dog is 9 years old and a border collie X golden retriever (or so i was told – but was a rescue dog so not really sure)… She has been having problems slipping on the hard wood floor and standing up after taking naps. The vet said that it is probably degenerative myelopathy after he knuckled her foot over and she did not move it. I am just wondering if this could really be possible. Her breed (if correct) does not seem to be a high risk one for DM and also there is no wear on her nails.
