Could i teach my horse western and english style?
All three of my family’s AQHA show horses do all-around – Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Western Riding, Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, and Equitation. Mine has also been started over fences, and he’s actually very talented in both disciplines. My gelding actually does seem to know what’s asked of him based on which saddle I use. If he’s outfitted in western tack, I can ask for a jog and get a super slow WP jog. Same with the lope. But if I put my English tack on him and ask for a trot, he naturally moves out a lot more. Part of that is how I ride him; if I sit the trot and ask him to slow down, he’ll do a western jog in English tack. But he knows that if I started posting, he lengthens his stride. With the canter, he’ll start off in a slow lope, but he knows how to lengthen that stride as well and move out.
