First of all, you have my admiration for being so generous in wanting to donate organs, bone marrow or tissue. I am sorry you find yourself in the situation you are in as I know dialysis is not pleasant. I hope this is good news. I’ve spoken to a friend in organ procurement at a local hospital and she says that health conditions, including cancer or kidney disease or ongoing dialysis, will not necessarily preclude you from donating. The decision making process takes into account age, overall condition of organs and tissue, and other factors and which organs will be taken are assessed on a case by case basis. As long as you make it known this is your wish–and your family supports it–you can be an organ donor. I wish you the very best and again thank you for your generosity. I am also signed up to be an organ donor and perhaps your story will encourage others to remember to or consider signing up, as well. Bless you!
