(as a college student) colleges usually give out booklets at the beginning of the year that course out your career path. I am doing high school english (english major secondary ed minor)and I have an entire book with the classes I need to take to graduate. You school probably has a course already set out for your specific doctorate path although in school you can take any class, even those ment for only certain majors can be over ruled by the dean of that specific ‘college’ (like dean of the college of education or dean of arts and sciences ) its a bit confusing but at orientation and professor advising you really learn a lot! best of luck to you!

Some of it depends on where you are going to school, but the answer is almost always yes. The sooner you make this decision in your academic career the better because some of your general education classes could also cover required coursework for either the major or minor. Talk to your academic advisor.
