You can backdate your claim for JSA but you’ll need a little luck to get your claim allowed. Couple of points. If you have got some evidence that you made the claim online (screen prints etc) then that will help. Using the excuse of not getting call back may allow you to cite what the Jobcentre call ‘misdirection’ i.e. the Jobcentre has made the mistake. This however will be very difficult to prove. The Jobcentre will also need to see what you have done to look for work during this time, it’s not just enough to be unemployed. One really tough word of warning. If when you make the claim you put in the backdated claim the Jobcentre will attempt to process the backdating claim first. If this backdated claim them involves several letters back and forth between yourself and the Jobcentre any’ legitimate’ claim you make (i.e. the one now) will not even be looked at until your backdated claim is allowed or in your case probably disallowed.
