Could flexible orthotics or shoe inserts help chronic knee pain?
A.Two of the most common causes of chronic knee pain are an imbalance in the structure and function of the feet, and structural misalignment of the pelvis. Pelvic misalignment causes a functional short leg, which causes that leg to be shorter than the other one until the pelvis is re-aligned. Structural or functional imbalance of the feet, and a functional short leg caused by pelvic misalignment, often affect the knee joints first, and chronic knee pain is often the result. I feel that both of these reasons are why knee injuries occur so frequently in sports, too. Getting fitted for flexible orthotics or shoe inserts can restore structural and functional balance of the feet, and can also help in the re-alignment of the pelvis. This in turn can help to correct the imbalance and misalignment of the knee joints. And, if corrected before there is irreversible deterioration of the knee joints, most chronic knee pain can be helped and, I feel, most knee surgeries could be avoided.
