Could fan power oust Hicks and Gillett?
When Tom Hicks and George Gillett sailed across the Atlantic in the February of 2008 they promised great investment, great signings and a trophy-laden future. The “Liverpool Reds franchise” would rule the world. We should have known then. Seeing pound signs and scrawling the lines of songs entitled six and nineteen times we were willing to give them a chance. They took it, and blew it. Recent weeks have proven that Liverpool supporters are ready to make a stand. The fact that the American’s are unwanted has been made crystal clear. Now we have confirmation that DIC are on our side, but they’re going to need our help if a coup is to materialise. BBC sports editor Mihir Bose explains: “The fact that DIC has gone so public on this means they know that the offer is not being accepted and they are trying to use fan pressure, like the Americans did last year.” Put simply, however cute the dog you buy your daughter if it betrays you and bites her, you’re going to get shot of the bastard thing
