Some of you outside Snohomish County might not be aware of the Mukilteo Proposition 1 initiative concerning red light and school speed zone cameras. The proposition would prohibit the city of Mukilteo from using camera surveillance and ticketing at stop lights and school speed zones without a two-thirds vote of the city council and a majority vote of the people. The proposition would also limit the fines for camera violation infractions “to no more than the least expensive parking ticket imposed within the city limits of Mukilteo.” (explanatory statement in voters’ pamphlet) This initiative was initiated and supported by small government WA state political activist Tim Eyman, WA State Campaign For Liberty Executive Director Alex Rion and Nick Sherwood, who along with his wife Tiffany runs the anti-camera website BanCams.
