Could exposure to emissions from smokestacks during the time MDI was operating cause adverse health effects?
From 1982 to 1991, the TNRCC investigated several complaints primarily involving visible emissions of particulate matter from the stacks and vents from the facility. The TNRCC Air Program files for the TESCO facility and later San Jacinto Foundry, records frequent Texas Clean Air Act compliance inspections and complaint investigations conducted at the facility from January 1982 through October 1991. Violations documented during this period primarily involve visible emissions of particulate matter from the stacks and vents of the facility. We do not have any information on the specific contaminants known to have been emitted from smokestacks on the site. Since past exposure levels cannot be determined, it is difficult to know whether adverse health effects occurring in individuals are the result of past exposures to emissions coming from the site. Many of the adverse health effects associated with exposure to the types of contaminants that may have been in the air in the past are subtle
