Could DHA improve the health of CF lungs?
Since the CF mouse does not develop genetically based lung disease, this is difficult to answer. When the experimental mice received supplemental DHA, they appeared to be protected when exposed to the pseudomonas bacteria the most common cause of lung inflammation in CF patients. Whether this protection will translate to beneficial effects in humans remains to be tested. This is the reason that a clinical trial will take place.
